Changes in the diurnal temperature range over East Asia from 1901 to 2018 and its relationship with precipitation

Since the 1950s, East Asian diurnal temperature range (DTR), defined as difference between daily maximum (Tmax) and minimum temperatures (Tmin), has gradually decreased. Precipitation changes have often been cited a primary cause of change. However, DTR change before 1950 its relationship with precipitation remain unclear. Here, we used newly developed China Meteorological Administration-Land Surface Air Temperature dataset v1.1 to examine climatological patterns long-term trends in Asia from 1901 2018 precipitation. The mean annual averaged over for 1951–2018 was approximately 10.0 °C. during 1901–2018 show two distinct characteristics. First, decreased significantly by 0.60 °C 1901–2018, decrease rate second half twentieth century (by ~0.53 °C) larger than that rest Northern Hemisphere global land due rapid urbanization Asia. Second, showed significant non-linear increase especially middle latitude areas, mainly warming Tmax is higher Tmin. Additionally, found spatial pattern shows negative correlation except arid semi-arid areas 1901–2018. decreasing trend became smaller regions humid because Tmin smaller.
